The Next Generation of Beasts
We all know about Marshawn Lynch and all of the “Beast Mode” hype that surrounds him. Being called a beast is a fairly prestigious label, especially for people that are less than 25 years old. Here are 4 young players who deserve to be called a beast.
- Jacob Trouba
The Winnipeg Jets drafted this guy in the 2012 draft at 9th overall and reaped the rewards, big time, he has 16 goals and 29 assists for 49 points and that says nothing about his amazing defensive abilities but what does is that he is the Jets’ top penalty killer and second in average ice time. He can skate, handle the puck, pass with the best of them, and through it all keep developing. He will be a Norris candidate before he is 30.
- Odell Beckham Jr.
Yes, we all know about the catch he made against Dallas, but Odell Beckham did much more than that to earn rookie of the year in the NFL. He had 91 catches, 12 touchdowns (including that catch vs Dallas) and 1,305 yards. He was a unanimous choice for rookie of the year and had the best rookie season since Randy Moss. Better days are to come for the Giants with this guy on their team.
- Tyler Seguin
The 23 year old superstar on the Stars started out with a fantastic junior career and was drafted 2nd overall by the Boston Bruins. In his rookie year, Seguin had an okay 11 goals and 11 assists and helped the Bruins to their first Stanley Cup win since 1972. The next year, he was front and center on the B's as he scored 29 goals to go with 38 assists. Then, after the short season in 2013, he was traded to Dallas in a 7 player deal. Since then, he has been an elite power. scoring at a higher than point-a-game player. Dallas has an awesome future.
- Anthony Davis
He has a 7'3" wingspan which is perfect for blocking shots, he was drafted first overall by the New Orleans Hornets (now the Pelicans) in 2012. He had a .516 field goal percentage in his rookie year in 64 games and was named to the USA Olympic basketball team for his draft year. His field goal percentage has increased every year and he was named an all-star in his 2nd and 3rd seasons. Seriously.
- Connor McDavid
He hasn't even been drafted yet and people are saying that he can challenge Crosby in a few years. That hype is completely deserved. He is the best junior player since Lemieux and will go first overall barring an inconcievable run by Jack Eichel or GM stupidity. One scout said that it was hard to scout projected number 5 pick Dylan Strome because McDavid was so good. That is heavy praise for someone not drafted. Here is how McDavid stacks up against Crosby at the 14 game mark
McDavid: 14 goals, 28 assists +30 point in every game, 12 multi point games
Crosby: 9 goals, 24 assists +11 point in 13 games, 10 multi point games
